About us Even before 1919, people were busy sailing and rowing on the Nieuwe Meer lake under the smoke of Amsterdam. A number of water sportsmen from this group decided to found a water sports association.
On 1 October 1919, the water sports association was definitively founded and named De Schinkel, after a waterway that flows into the Nieuwe Meer. On 5 February 1921, royal approval was granted to the Schinkel. At the ALV on 22 January 1932, the board was given authorisation by acclamation to build a harbour, which was festively opened on 8 May that year.
For all history and facts, see also Lustrum book 100 Jaar De Schinkel.
Mission The mission of Water Sports Association De Schinkel is to enable water sports, water recreation and water fun for the residents of Amsterdam and the surrounding area. As an association, they offer the opportunity to orientate on or further qualify yourself in water sports. But above all, they want you to be able to enjoy the water sports in and around Amsterdam to the full.
To this end, the association makes good marina facilities available to its members at a favourable price and organises activities. The clubhouse offers members the opportunity to meet in a friendly and amicable atmosphere.
The association exists by the grace of all the volunteers who selflessly devote themselves to fulfilling the necessary tasks. Conviviality, sportsmanship and togetherness are the core values of their association.
Vision The Water Sports Association De Schinkel wants to be a full-fledged and healthy association that can stimulate and organise water sports and recreation for its members from its own resources and from its own permanent location with its own clubhouse. The association strives for accessible activities and a low-threshold membership offer aimed at the residents of Amsterdam and the surrounding area. Social cohesion for all involved and a cost-effective operation go hand in hand.
In the coming years, the club aims to further broaden its range of water sports facilities. Gigroeien and competition sailing on Thursday evenings are good examples of a path towards a broader water sports club. Maintaining the core values of sociability, sportsmanship and togetherness serves as a hard and natural starting point here.
They also want to make their unique location more accessible to local residents and other interested parties. They are proud of their facilities and club culture and want to make them better known to potential members. In doing so, they look for new ways of communication to introduce themselves to a wider audience.
They are not averse to change and are aware of the possible developments in their immediate surroundings. They respond to these by maintaining their core values and pursuing their ambitions in an open and proactive manner. GUIDE FOR PASSERS-BY
Dear water sportsman,
First of all, welcome to the marina of Watersports Association De Schinkel. An association that will celebrate its centenary in 2019! So you are staying at a special place!
De Schinkel is an association and is run by members/volunteers. The harbour master is therefore not permanently present but you will find him on the marina in the morning and in the evening. Should you need the harbour master urgently outside, you will find the telephone numbers of the (replacement) harbour master(s) in the showcase, next to the entrance of the clubhouse.
You will probably have moored your boat at the transient jetty in front of the clubhouse. In most cases you can stay here, in some cases the harbour master may assign you another spot. You will be informed automatically.
Registration In the absence of the harbour master, please fill in the passer-by registration book in the club house. The information to be filled in speaks for itself. Payment
The harbour master will visit you during his rounds to get acquainted, check whether everything is in order and then settle the bill with you.
Clubhouse In the clubhouse you will find the toilets and showers. These are open all day and their use is included in the mooring fee for up to four passengers. The light comes on automatically when you walk in. During the day, the canteen in the clubhouse is also open. The Schinkelers can often be found there and you can also have a fresh cup of coffee or tea (25ct). The canteen is closed in the evening, except on Thursday evening - the regular, convivial club night - where you are also welcome.
Opening hours bar: The bar in the canteen is also open at the following times: - Thursday: 14.30 - 17.30 and from 19.00 - 23.00 - Saturday and Sunday: 13.00 - 19.00
Members pay here with the so-called drip but you can pay for your orders by pin as a passer-by. Cash payments are not possible for security reasons.
Gate access You can leave the port area without any problems, but you will need a gate access code to return. You will find the current code at the port.
