Welcome to Watersports Association U.N.O., strategically located at Prinsemolenpad 12 in Rotterdam, behind the Berg and Broeksverlaat on the Bergseplas and the Rotte river. The association offers moorings for about 40 vessels on the Rotte side, with a maximum draught of 1.20 metres. In the Voorplas, they have over 210 spaces for vessels with a maximum draft of 85 cm.
Facilities include a slipway for vessels with a maximum draft of 85 cm, a floating barge with up to 4 tonnes lifting capacity, showers, toilets and a clubhouse. In summer, they welcome passers-by at various locations.
The association, founded on 1 November 1981, has retained the name 'U.N.O.', which stands for 'Uit Nood Ontstaan'. This name recalls the challenges berth holders faced after the death of the tenant of Hoeve Vruchtenburg/Straatweg. Lack of facilities and maintenance forced them to form an association.
After efforts by the board, this resulted in the purchase of 'de Blauwe Wimpel' after the farmstead 'Vruchtenburg' was abandoned and the jetties were derelict. In 1986, the Blauwe Wimpel burned down, but after two years of hard work, the new club building at Prinsenmolenpad 12 opened on Saturday 28 January 1989.
Membership runs from 1 January to 31 December, with an annual membership fee of €50 from 2017. Mooring fees exclude electricity and drinking water, divided into categories depending on the size and location of the vessel. New members pay a fee equal to the annual cost of their mooring at the start.
They adjust the amounts annually based on the price index figure or a higher percentage after approval by the ALV. The association welcomes a growing number of passers-by who use their facilities.
Both in summer and winter season, their activities continue, with special attention to environmental aspects. Everything, including maintenance, renovation and environmental awareness, is financed in-house. Renovation of buildings and scaffolding are planned for the near future.
Meet their enthusiastic board led by chairman Gerard de Burger, treasurer Diana Galesloot, communications and 2nd treasurer Jack de Vringer, and general board member Jeroen van Helvoirt.
