Our story began in 1983 when Roland, a young outdoor enthusiast, began his journey designing and manufacturing equipment for adventurers in Australia. After an extraordinary first ascent of Mt. Everest in 1991, Sea to Summit was born.

Born out of Passion and Adventure

Roland's drive to design the best, lightest and most durable equipment took him further into the remote Australian backcountry and eventually into the Himalayas. These wild places allowed his inventions to undergo the ultimate test.

In 1993, Penny Sanderson, a passionate explorer and innovator with six years' experience at Australian Geographic, joined Roland. Their shared love of travel and design became the foundation of Sea to Summit, which quickly grew into a successful global brand.
